“It’s a real pleasure to write a testimonial for H+M Builders. I highly recommend H+M Builders to anyone, their professionalism, attention to detail and relaxed approach made the whole building process a very rewarding experience. Nothing was ever an issue even though our project was a difficult architectural build that required a high level of skill and workmanship. H+M delivered in all areas thanks to excellent teamwork and detailed planning that ensured we got a quality result!

I wish Matt and Hamish the very best for the future and hope I get the opportunity to work with them again!”

Registered Architect | PRau Limited - NZIA Practice

- Phil Redmond

“We are strong believers that the relationship between architect and builder is a collaborative one, the success of our designs into built form relies on this relationship. The team at H&M have been fantastic to collaborate with and as an architect their care and attention to detail is highly appreciated. The results speak volumes.”

Penthouse Apartment Owner

- Keith & Diane Miles

“We employed H & M Builders to completely renovate our penthouse apartment after they were recommended to us by a friend who is a tradesman.

Their brief was to work with our architect, engage all the sub-contractors, work with the body corporate, arrange traffic management and carry out the renovation in a timely manner and within a budget.

The two owners were a delight to work with. Their planning of the job went to perfection with all sub-contractors on site when they needed to be. Their repour with these people was amazing to watch. The workmanship of the renovation exceeded our expectations and was completed on time and within the budget.

Hamish and Matt are two young men who work hard, are great organizers and take pride in their workmanship along with their young team. They are very professional.

At no stage did we have any disputes. We would highly recommend them to carry out any building work.”

Working Style Managing Director

- Chris Dobbs

“Our new Chch store was a home run from start to finish. I immediately clicked with Matt, trusted him but more importantly worked with him to make sure that he had everything he needed to get the job done.

We kept things simple, communicated well and the result is a fitout that came in on budget and has achieved immediate success in Canterbuty.

I’d work with him again in a heartbeat.”

- Dave Sturman

“I have spent a lifetime in the building industry and had the good fortune to judge the House of the Year Competition for 5 years and the New Zealand Institute of Building Awards for another 5 years. You often think that having acquired a lot of knowledge over the years, what good is that knowledge if you can’t share it and help others to grow as you have grown. As we all have limitations on time, we must be selective on who we share the knowledge with in respect to getting the greatest return for the future and development of the industry.

I first meet Hamish Inch and Matt Stephen’s when the Licensed Building Practitioners scheme came in. I was not only impressed with their knowledge and well-rounded country lad work ethic but also their passion for the industry and desire to get better at executing their craft. Not only was my curiosity peeked in their career, they would often come up to me at Placemakers Riccarton breakfasts and engage in conversation about the industry.

Fortunately, they asked me if I would assist them in an informal mentoring capacity of which I was thrilled to do so. Since then they have made the leap of faith to go out on their own in business and formed H & M Builders Ltd. We have had many conversations about how best to set yourself apart in this very competitive industry by holding yourself to a higher standard. We have often spoken about Win/Win outcomes and having something in it for everyone and “Seeking first to understand, and then to be understood.” If the attitude sets the altitude then these two are soaring and the Building Industry is a much better place for the part in which they are playing in it.

Like anything you are only as good as your last project however, both Hamish and Matt are made of good quality with a fine work ethic who are both very personable and want to provide their customers with the very best service and outcome that they possibly can.

I wish them both well in their future and will take a keen interest in their future development and challenges they will face growing their business.”

Home Owner

- Paula Shardlow

“I first meet Hamish Inch and Matt Stephens of H&M Builders Ltd, when I was challenged to complete the build of my property after the initial Builder went broke and over claimed payments and under performed in complying with the Present-Day Building Code and meeting my expectations.

As this was quite a challenge for me as my budget was in tatters and my nerves somewhat frayed, I needed a Builder who was prepared to be patient, communicative and who was prepared to take me on the building journey with them along with meeting my budget expectations. Fortunately, both Matt and Hamish were ideal in this regard as they communicated regularly, they were empathetic of my situation and committed to providing me the very best outcome that they could. It was a pleasure working with a team of men that had pride in their work, were always friendly and willing to acknowledge me as the homeowner and respect my ideas and were always willing to discuss and enhance these ideas for me.

The proof is in the pudding as they say and Hamish & Matt were the ideal collaborative Building Partner for me as jointly, we made a very potentially dire situation work through open communication and mutual respect. It is with great pleasure I am able to write this testimonial and endorse the fabulous service and quality workmanship that Matt & Hamish and their team delivered for me. It is a testimony to them that my house is now fulfilling my dreams and aspirations as opposed to the nightmare it could have easily been. I am forever grateful for their help.”

Architectural Home Renovation

- Lyn Holland

“I want to commend the work done by H&M, not only in their excellent workmanship but also their organisation of the subcontractors in keeping the project moving with the least time wasted. I also want to comment on the way that day by day, and especially on completion, the worksite was left clean and tidy by all the participants and all the detritus removed causing as little disruption as possible.

Thanks again for your help in the planning and oversight of the project.”

Alteration to 1930's villa

- Bill & Ines

“We used Matt and Hamish to undertake a renovation on our 1930’s villa and were very happy with the results.

They were both great at communicating. After sending them a scope of works, they visited our house to talk through exactly what we wanted done. They provided a very detailed quote which was itemized to the individual elements which allowed us to budget more effectively and actually see where our money was going. They always kept us up to date with what was happening and ran through what they’d done when we got back from work each day.

Their quality of work was exceptional, with everything finished to a high standard and within the time frames they had initially outlined. They also made useful suggestions to changes to the plans, which made the house flow a lot better and  assisted us with varying our building consent when we changed our mind on cladding.

During the work we were living at home and they tidied up each day and kept the house secure for us.

They made the whole process easy and were very helpful. I would definitely recommend them.”
